Antique Synthetic Sapphire Cabochon Ring
£2,650.00
This dreamy sapphire would have been made in the late 1800s, when coloured stones were in such high demand that huge efforts were being put into making synthetic versions of natural gemstones.
The first synthetic sapphires were made in 1873 following years of experimentation. Synthetic sapphires were very popular in the early 1900s, and these early synthetics hold a collectable value of their own.
This stunning royal blue cabochon is like a witches ball, it glows in the light. Surrounding it is a halo of rose cut diamonds, with a fine millegrained edge.
Tested as 18ct gold.
